YVR Airport says it is working with RCMP and responding to reports of a police incident outside of the YVR main terminal.

There are multiple unconfirmed reports on social media about a shooting at YVR.

The airport said in a social media message that the facility is currently open and safe, with restricted access.

“We can confirm the situation has been contained at YVR. The airport is open and safe. Flights are operating,” YVR said on Twitter.

Passengers were advised to check with airlines about current flight statuses.

Major routes and bridges were temporarily closed in and out of Richmond Sunday afternoon for the unspecified police incident.

The Massey Tunnel was closed in both directions and commuters were told to expect “major” delays in and out of the city.

In a message posted to Twitter, Metro Vancouver Transit Police said people should avoid Sea Island and YVR today if at all possible.

“Everyone is working hard to resolve the police incident.”

Canada Line service was temporarily suspended to Templeton, Sea Island Centre, or YVR-Airport Station due to the police incident, but was reinstated shortly before 4pm, according to TransLink.

The Ministry of Transportation said that the Massey Tunnel, Alex Fraser, and Queensborough reopened around 4 pm.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as news becomes available.
