Environment Canada has issued a wind warning over parts of Metro Vancouver.

The warning is in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver – central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster

  • Metro Vancouver – southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver – southwest including Richmond and Delta

“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements,” stated Environment Canada.

The warning comes after the weather agency advised that Vancouver is in for a “super soaker weekend,” with up to 30 millimetres of rain expected to fall before Monday

Between 10 and 15 millimetres is expected to fall overnight on Saturday.

A high of 8°C – and another 10 to 15 millimetres of rain – are in the forecast for Sunday. Wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour are expected in the evening.

The showers will continue through to Sunday night, and Environment Canada warns it will be “very windy” as the temperature drops to 1°C.

The stormy weather should clear up by Monday. Sunny skies and a high of 10°C are in the forecast to start out the new week.
