Investigators say a double homicide in Richmond Friday morning has been linked to a burned vehicle ditched in Surrey.

On Thursday around 4 a.m., firefighters were called to the 22000-block of Rathburn Drive in Richmond to deal with a house fire.

Once the fire was extinguished, investigators combed the charred site and found two people dead inside the home. Few details were released but investigators said circumstances led police to classify the deaths as homicides.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was then called in.

“At this time the two victims have not yet been identified,” said Det. Lara Jansen of IHIT. “IHIT investigators are working hard to further this investigation, identify the victims and locate next of kin.”

Jansen also said that a burned black BMW SUV was found a short time later, abandoned near 16th Avenue and 194th Street in Surrey, and is believed to be linked to the double homicide and fire in Richmond.

“We are asking anyone with CCTV, dash cam video or information related to the homicide or the burned BMW SUV to contact IHIT,” she said.

Anyone with information about the deaths or the vehicle is asked to contact investigators at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
