hadar slassi introduces hybrid fabrication design concept ‘walk of mind’ shoes, a blend of digital and traditional planning. the result is a merge of five layers that form the skeleton of the shoes, which are lightweight yet durable due to their leather structure.
hadar slassi uses an originative shoe layering compound method that retraces the known base hierarchy of function and shape in shoe layers. the project combines additive manufacturing 3D printed SLS mold of natural web cracked earth patterns, together with traditional wet molding vesicle forms -bumps, while weaving together nylon 12 polymer and vegetable-tanned leather.
the project explores a new approach to shoe design accompanied with new terminology. ‘walk of mind shoes’ is a compound of five stratas. strata is a geological term that describes the fundamental earth unit, using it to replace the known term ‘layer’. strata compound method bridges gaps between modern digital technology and old-world craftsmanship. ‘the work draws influence by shoes and feet at judaism. relaying on a spiritual yet earthly ground, my project allows me to inner examine my heritage and its values,’ hadar slassi mentions.
‘walk of mind’ shoe’s structure strength is acquired by all five strata’s compound together, creating a geometric lock enhanced by hand sewing. the design process begins with personal customization by using a digital scan of a certain foot. the design can be adjusted to any foot, depending on the scanned model.
