Some prominent pieces of Vancouver’s skyline lit up purple on Monday night to mark International Women’s Day.

The day rolls around every year on March 8, and many use it as an occasion to celebrate women and examine gender inequalities that still exist.

BC Place turned bright purple for the evening, and the stadium shared an impressive photo on Twitter.

“A day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women,” it said.

The Vancouver Convention Centre at Jack Poole Plaza was also illuminated by violet lights.

“We are proudly glowing purple today for International Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements of women across the globe, while continuing to advocate for positive change around gender equality,” it said.
