A 78-year-old woman has died from her injuries after being brutally attacked by two intruders posing as police officers on Sunday morning.

According to VPD, the investigation began on Sunday morning after Usha Singh was found with life-threatening injuries inside her home near Queen Elizabeth Park. It’s believed she was attacked by two men who entered her home by posing as police officers.

Singh was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. The case is now considered a homicide investigation.

Two suspects were arrested yesterday in East Vancouver. The first is a 47-year-old man arrested near Strathcona Park with assistance from a VPD police dog. The man is also wanted Canada-wide for unrelated crimes. Police say he suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest and was taken to hospital before going to jail. The Independent Investigations Office has been notified of the incident.

The second suspect, a 41-year-old man, was arrested near Main Street and Terminal Avenue on Tuesday night.

“This was a tragic and senseless crime that cost an innocent woman her life, and struck fear and anxiety in the community,” said VPD Sergeant Steve Addison in a statement.

“Vancouver is still a safe city, and thankfully incidents like this are rare. We hope these arrests begin to restore a sense of calm and safety.”
