The 26-storey Cardero tower in downtown Vancouver, designed by Henriquez Partners Architects and developed by Bosa Properties, is the recipient of an international design award.

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has awarded the development its Award of Excellence winner in the Best Tall Building under 100m category.

The development consists of 119 luxury condominiums over four floors of office space, and ground floor retail. The tower’s façade stands out with angled, V-shaped white steel shades, enhancing privacy between units and helping to reduce solar heat gain.

“Cardero stands out as one of our family’s proudest achievements in more than 50 years of creating homes in Metro Vancouver,” said Colin Bosa. “We want to make a meaningful long-term impact on the city, and we are proud of the partnership with Henriquez Partners Architects. Together, we worked to create a sustainable, world-class work of architecture that will contribute to the evolution of urban living in Vancouver and be part of shaping the skyline of one of the world’s best cities.”

The architecture was inspired by the development’s nautical surroundings – seagulls and seaplanes taking flight and touching down in nearby Coal Harbour.

“We are so proud of this collaboration with Bosa to realize Cardero, a project that has significant meaning for our studio and marks the gateway from the North Shore into our city centre,” said Gregory Henriquez, managing principal of Henriquez Partners Architects.

Cardero will compete for the title of Overall Category winner in the Best Tall Building under 100m height alongside 11 other Award of Excellence winners from around the world at a virtual awards ceremony to be held in May 2021.
