VANCOUVER, B.C.: Saturday, Jan 23.Today’s weather is expected to start off sunny and cold and then turn snowy overnight. A snowfall warning is in effect Saturday, with accumulations of between five and 15 centimetres expected tonight across B.C.’s South Coast.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says snow amounts will vary across the region. Downtown Vancouver, for example, will likely see about five centimetres, while higher elevations and inland sections of Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast will see higher accumulations.

Drivers are being warned that the Malahat Highway on Vancouver Island could see 10 centimetres of snow between tonight and Sunday afternoon.

The agency says snow will change to rain or become mixed with rain late Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday morning, expect sunshine and windy weather, with a wind chill factor of – 7 C.  The day should warm up to about 4 C, and then snow begins overnight. Then the region could see snow or rain Sunday depending on elevation, with a high of 3 C.
